Exploration History

Circa 1919-24 : the Ottawa Suburban Roads Commission operated a quarry on lot 3, con 3, for crushed and screened limestone. This was the McLaurin Quarry or Kirby Quarry, which (1921) had a 20 ft face and an opening 150 ft long. 1958 : the 'McCarthy Road Quarry' was under operation by Dibblee Construction Co Ltd. In 1958 it had a 50 ft face and was worked in 3 (20 ft) lifts. It operated seasonally, the whole production being used by the construction company. 1993 : the quarry was partially overgrown and located within a subdivision. It has been completely fenced off and (1993) is owned by the Compeau Corporation. The face is 20.8 m high.

Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (C Papertzian) - Limestones and dolostones of the lower and upper members of the Gull River Formation and the lower member of the Bobcaygeon Formation, are exposed. See section AQ OT-2 in OGS 1991.
