Access Description: A group of quarries on cons 5 and 6 which also includes the Boyce (Dibblee) Quarry on lot 25, con 5 - MDI31G05SE00006. The Bertrand and Drummond Quarries should also be listed as separate MDIs. The Boyce Quarry is situated adjacent to the Armbro quarry, on the S. The Bertrand quarry is 1/2 ml SE of the Boyce Quarry.
1957 : the Armstrong Brothers Co Ltd (South Gloucester Quarry) was opened for road stone. In 1958 the quarry was water-filled and appeared to be about 20 ft deep. It seems to have been operating again in 1964. By 1972 it had been deepened with 2 lifts (11.5 ft exposed above water in the lower lift). Concrete and asphalt aggregate were produced. 1984 : now operated by Armbro Aggregates (a division of United Aggregates Ltd) and licensed for 122.21 ha, the excavated area covering 37 ha in 1989. The quarry was 27.3 m deep and overburden 1-3 m thick. c1972 : Bertrand and Freres Construction Co Ltd operated a quarry in lot 27, con 5. It had a 24.5 ft face in 1972 and operated on demand. Overburden about 1-3 ft. pre-1991 : George W. Drummond operated a quarry on lot 28, con 6. It had a 6.75 m face.

Dec 07, 2005 (C Papertzian) - The Armbro, Bertrand, Drummond and the Dibblee (Boyce) quarries are all in Oxford and March Formation dolostones and sandstones. See OGS 1991 for sections (LQ OT-7,8,9,10). See also MTO drillhole GDH OT-3, on lot 24, con 5.
