Exploration History

Pre-18511 : stone used for construction - in the building of the Grenvile and Carillon canals. 1912 : there were 3 openings on the NW side of the knoll which was quarried, but now idle. Stone was used in St. Philip's church, Hawkesbury; the Presbyterian and Roman Catholic churches, Vankleek Hill. 1976 : MTC quarry # H4-47 was noted as active and named 'Hawkesbury Country Club' (lot 29, con 1). Stone from the quarry has probably been used in the construction of Hwys 17 and 417. 1989 : Sintra Inc operate the quarry (on lot 29, con 2) on an intermittent basis, for local road construction. 1991 : Whissell Concrete Products is named on lot 28, con 1.

Dec 07, 2005 (C Papertzian) - See section LQ HA-2 (OGS 1991) : Whissell Concrete Products, lot 28, con 1. 4.50 m of upper Rockliffe Formation massive limestone (with stylolites, cross-bedding and brachiopods) overlies 5.00 m of lower Rockliffe Formation sandstone with shale interbeds.
