Point Location Description: Point just S of Hawkesbury.
Location Method: Conversion from MDI
Access Description: 100 yds SW of the station at Hawkesbury.
Pre-1912 : possibly used in canal construction (but said to shatter - likely due to use of explosives). Used for road metal in 1912. 1917 : tested for use as pulpstone but found to be too fine-grained and soft. 'a few years ago' the quarry was said to have been opened up by the Ottawa Valley Stone Quarry Co Ltd to test the lower beds for use as building stone. The earlier dynamiting made this difficult but, using channelling and plugs and feathers, some 'excellent building stone of large dimension' was obtained. Quarrying in 1917 was carried out in the the thicker, lower beds and the stone used in the Christian Brothers school at Alfred.
Province: Paleozoic and Mesozoic Basins
Dec 07, 2005 (C Papertzian) - Rockliffe formation sandstone. The upper 3 ft is thinly-bedded and shattered but lower beds are more massive.
