Lithology Comments

Nov 23, 2015 (A Wilson) - The deposit is described as a 12 foot section of Saugeen clay, free from stone, but containing the usual amount of interbanded sand. The sand dug in with the clay renders the whole quite mild, making it an excellently workable deposit. A 1942 description identifies the clay as a varved clay. The observed feature is a clay pit with a reported depth of 1 m. The cross-section dimensions are 75m by 200 m. The feature is in overburden with sloped sides. The remains of a brick kiln about 25 feet in diameter lie northeast of the pit, adjacent to the railway.

Mineralization Comments

Nov 23, 2015 (A Wilson) - An analysis of the clay returned: 65.42% SiO2 and16.06% Al2O3. The varved clay contains abundant illite and moderate amounts of chlorite and expanding minerals. The plant produced about 300,000 drain tiles in the 6-month working season. Brick was occasionally produced.
