Lithology Comments

Aug 02, 2017 (A Wilson) - In that part of claim 105 which lies north of Clear Lake at about 320 feet south and 520 feet west of the northeast corner is a shaft estimated to be 25 feet in depth. Pink calcite vein material, 1-3 inches wide, may be seen on the dump; the host rock is grey tuff. In that part of claim 105 which lies south of Clear Lake and at 47 feet north and 94 feet east of the southwest corner is a shaft. The dump consists of Keewatin sediments, lamprophyre, and chert showing sulphide mineralization. The writer was informed by E. B. DeCamps (present when the work was done (E. B. DeCamps, personal communication, 1950) The shaft was put down 100 feet and a crosscut driven north to investigate a diamond drill hole intersection reported by Bell to have been obtained in 1906. The diamond drilling was done from a scow anchored in Clear Lake. Five feet of vein matter and some native silver is reported to have been intersected and the extension of the vein on the lakeshore was said to have been found. Subsequent work by Clear Lake Mining Co. Ltd. and Cleveland Cobalt Silver Mines Ltd. would appear to have revealed nothing of economic importance but the present writer has no information on their findings.

Mineralization Comments

Aug 02, 2017 (A Wilson) - On claim 547 at about 200 feet west and 150 feet south of the northeast corner is a shaft (estimated depth 75 feet) quartz-carbonate vein material, in pieces to 6 inches wide and with sphalerite, galena and a little chalcopyrite, was seen on the dump. Minor pyrrhotite, pyrite and chalcopyrite occur in the wall rock. A pit 80 feet south of the shaft shows a quartz-carbonate vein 4 inches wide containing sphalerite, galena and pyrite in small amount. On claim 26 (probably) at about 700 feet south of the northeast corner is a shaft estimated to be 100 feet in depth. The shaft now badly caved was put down in a Keweenawan (?) diabase dike. About 100 feet west of the shaft is a pit in which is exposed a quartz vein containing coarse-grained pyrite as well as disseminated pyrrhotite. The vein is in a sedimentary (in part chert) band, which also contains pyrite.Possibly the shaft was put down to explore this vein. Assays up to 3.2% zinc, similar to Drummond Hill occurrence Agnico Eagle Files, Cobalt.
