Exploration History

1913: Nat Oslund discovered a cobalt-bearing vein on claim C.1220. 1926: South Keora Mines Ltd. acquired the claim. 1927-1928: South Keora Mines Ltd. put a shaft put down 109’ and 143’ of drifting done on the 100’ level. An open cut 30’ deep was made northeast of the shaft. 1951: Audley Gold Mines optioned the property, which was geologically surveyed but diamond drilling (four holes designated A-l, to A-4 on Map P. 82) was confined very largely to claim C.1220. The results obtained apparently afforded little inducement for further effort. 1997: Wabana Exploration Inc completed ground geophysics including magnetometer, VLF, and gradiometric surveys, overburden stripping, prospecting and sampling as well as assaying. 2012: Outcrop Explorations Ltd completed 31 line km of magnetometer and VLF surveys. 2013: Outcrop Explorations Ltd completed prospecting and soil sampling.

Lithology Comments

Mar 21, 2019 (A Wilson) - The South Keora Shaft-vein is 300’ long and 4 inches wide. The vein strikes N25E and dips 70º W. A second vein 100’ long occurs east of and parallel to the shaft vein. The South Keora shaft vein traverses Keewatin andesitic lava. The present ground surface was presumably less than two hundred feet below the bottom Nipissing diabase contact prior to erosion of the latter. The vein, said to be up to 4 inches wide, strikes N.25º E., and dips about 70º W.; silver and cobalt minerals occur with calcite. Mr. Oslund reports that individual assays from selected places gave high cobalt (12 to 15 percent) and silver (over 1,000 oz.per ton) assay returns.

Mineralization Comments

Jan 30, 2020 (A Wilson) - Mr. Oslund stated that visible gold, a speck of 1/8 inch diameter, was found occurring in close association with cobalt ore in the vein and that assays corroborated this occurrence. A large presently caved open cut in deep overburden was put down along the vein at some 60 feet northerly of the shaft indicating that the vein had been traced at surface over a length of 150 feet. On this property a considerable amount of trenching has been done where overburden was sufficiently shallow to permit.Sampling done circa 1913 by N. Oslund gave returns of 12-15% cobalt and over 1000 oz/ton silver.
