Lithology Comments

Feb 18, 2015 (A Wilson) - A vein, that strikes N.58° E., and dips 80° N., passes through the Gem shaft. On the shaft dump is calcite up to3 inches wide and cobalt mineralization in minor amount. No records of results obtained in underground exploration are available but presumably nothing of economic importance was found. The central part of the sill - in the vicinity ofwhich the surface of this claim lies - has not in general been ore-bearing.

Mineralization Comments

Jul 24, 2017 (A Wilson) - A rich silver-bearing loose piece of ore or nugget found on this claim on top of a high hill, is the largest piece of this nature found to-date in the Cobalt camp. It is presently on exhibit in the Provincial Buildings, Toronto. Gibson gives the dimensions as 5 feet 5 inches, by 2 feet 5 inches by 1 foot 6 inches; the silver content is given as 9,715 ounces, the total weight as 1,640 pounds. Adhering country rock was determined by Knight to be Cobalt Series greywacke. This and the place at which it was found indicates its derivation from the rich veins, exposed at surface in the vicinity of Kerr Lake, some three quarters of a mile to the north. Several small nuggets in the same glacial train were found on the claim.
