Point Location Description: Stripped area

Location Method: Based on Assessment

Access Description: Point Located: A point 3.14 km south and 1.97 km east of the northwest corner of Tannahill Township. 8 km north of the southern boundary of Elliott Township along the Harker-Holloway access road a 1.8 km northeast trending gravel road leads to a gravel pit. At the time of the property visit by the present writer (September, 1987), an old drilling road trending north from the gravel pit was followed to a recently cut narrow and mucky bush road. This was followed east to the Elliott-Tannahill Township common boundary, where it headed south, following the common boundary for about 1.6 km to the Magusi River. The occurrence is in Tannahill Township, on the east shore of the Magusi River, just north of a small set of rapids about 2 km at bearing 073 from where the Magusi River intersects the common township boundary (a 25 minute ride in a light motor boat from the river access point on the township line). In September, 1987, construction of a lumber road beginning at the gravel pit in Elliott Township and continuing east southeast into Tannahill Township was in progress. When completed, this road will allow 4 wheel drive vehicle access as far as the Elliott-Tannahill Township common boundary where the cut bush road (here trending 180) may be accessed about 600 m north of the Magusi River.

Exploration History

1986: T. Miron of Sudbury stripped overburden near what is now (1988) the common corner of mining claim nos. 982946, 982943, 982942, and 982845. A sketch map indicates that a sample from one pit assayed 0.29 ounce of gold per ton (assessment files, Resident Geologist's Office, Kirkland Lake). 1987: A contiguous block of 44 mining claims in west central Tannahill Township was staked by I. Gagne and A. St. Amant, both of Kirkland Lake. Work prior to September by the current owners consisted of hydraulic overburden stripping and bedrock blasting. 1988: The area was staked by Yvon Gagne. Airborne VLF-EM and airborne magnetic surveys were completed. This was followed by limited stripping and sampling. Nine X-Ray diamond drill holes totaling 1731 feet were completed. Samples collected and assayed returned gold to 583 ppb, and copper to 87,100 ppm. 1995: Strike Minerals completed stripping, trenching, blasting and sampling.

Geology

Province: Superior

Subprovince: Abitibi

Terrane: Wawa-Abitibi

Belt: Abitibi

Tectonic Assemblage: Blake River

Geological Age: Archean

Metamorphism Grade: Greenschist

Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (C Salo) - The Gagne/St. Amant claims straddle the contact between weakly metamorphosed (greenschist or lower metamorphic facies) S facing (Archean) Kinojevis Group tholeiitic volc. rxs to the NW and overlying S facing (Archean) Blake River Group calc alkalic volc. rxs to the southeast. Bedrock in the area is on the north limb of the E striking and E plunging Blake River Synclinorium. Kinojevis Group rxs are repres. by Mg-rich tholeiitic basaltic and related intrus. rxs and sed. while Blake River Grp. rxs include calc alkalic basaltic to andesitic and related extrus. and pyroclastic rxs. The contact between the two Grps is nowhere exposed and its inferred position (striking about 060 across the N central part of the property) is poorly controlled lithogeochem. due to sparse outcrop exposure. S of the inferred position of the Kinojevis Blake River Grp contact, the volc. sequence has been synclinally folded. The trace of the synclinal axis strikes 080 and has been (apparently) sinestrally offset in two places by cross faults which strike 165. The western 165 striking cross fault appears to be of limited extent, with an (apparent) assoc. offset of about 50 m. The eastern cross fault, however, has been mapped to be of regional scale, and extends over 7 km. Offset across this fault may be greater than that across the western fault, but lack of exposure makes offset est.difficult . A gabbroic/anorthositic plug (estimated to be about 2,600 by 900 m in size) occurs about 900 m east of the occur.

Lithology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (C Salo) - AB-87-159: East stripping muck grab. Mottled grey/green carbonatized pillowed andesite or basalt. Rare white cp-calc veinlets cut pervasively calc altered volcanic rock containing calc andcalc-chlorite filled amygdules. Less than 2% of 1 mm size py cubes. AB-87-160: East stripping muck grab. Green/grey pervasively carbonatized amygdaloidal basalt or andesite. Amygdules range in size from 1-2 mm and may be calc filled. Rare py-calc filled amygdules are present. Less than 1% of py occurs within amygdules. AB-87-162: West stripping outcrop chip. Grey carbonatized amygdaloidal pillowed andesite or basalt with calc, calc-py, and cp filled amygdules, irregular blebs of cp, and a calc veinlet carrying fine to medium grained py and cp within the interpillow matrix. 5-7% of combined py and cp, usually occurring associated with calc veinlets. AB-87-163: Selected west stripping muck grab. Interpillow cp-calc vein carrying 25-30% of py, cp, and bornite. AB-87-165: Selected west stripping muck grab. Carbonatized fine grained dark green/grey interpillow matrix with cp-carbonate-py-cp. Combined sulfides constitute 10% of the sample. AB-87-166: Selected west stripping muck grab. Cp-calc mass with whispy blebs of cp, medium grained and often brecciated py, very fine grained acicular green tourmaline, and a fibrous coarse grained green amphibole (actinolite?). Hosted by fine grained dark green carbonatized hyaloclastite. 15% of combined sulfides.

Mineralization Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (C Salo) - The eastern stripped area (about 3 by 4 m in size) exposes light green/grey c amoeboid to rarely bun shaped S facing pillowed mafic or intermed. volc. rxs. Pillows are gener. less than 1.5 m in max. exposed dimension and are amygdaloidal, with concentrically distributed 1 mm amygdules at the darker green-grey pillow margins which grade inward to 3 mm size randomly distrib. amygdules in the pillow cores. Amygdules filled with chl.-calc., q, q rimmed by calc., py rimmed by calc, py, and (rarely) cp were observed. The interpillow matrix is gener. dk green, chloritic, c, very fg, and locally hyaloclastic. The interpillow matrix contains 1-80% of dissem. fg py and whispy fg dissem. cp. Interpillow sulfide minerals tend to be cg and more abund. when assoc. with calc-q masses and veinlets which (rarely) cut indiv. pillows. The pillowed volc. rxs are intruded by a 10 cm wide, 075 striking mafic dike that contains 1-2 mm size varioles devel. along both margins. The western stripped and blasted area is a few metres west of the exposure descr. above and consists of a 0.5-3.0 m wide by 9 m long irreg. face blasted into c pillowed mafic or intermed. volc rxs ident. to those described above. Blasted muck samples contain interpillow py and cp with access. bn, mc, and az. Sulfide content of the interpillow matrix ranges from 1-90%, with what constitute essent. massive sulfide specimens rarely larger than a small hand sample. One interpillow grab sample of q-calcite-py-cp contained very fg acicular green tour and a green cg amphibole (actinolite?). At the Gagne/St. Amant occur., minimal overburden stripping has exposed base metal sulfide (up to 8.7% of Cu and 0.13% of Zn in selected grab samples) and precious metal (up to 37 ppm of Ag and 580 ppb of Au in selected grab samples) mineral. hosted by perv. c Blake River Grp volc rxs. The type and style of mineral. is identical to that known to occur assoc. with stockwork base metal/precious metal mineral. in Ben Nevis Twp.
