Location Method: Data Compilation
1982: Phelps Dodge Corp. of Canada Ltd. completed geological mapping and a VLF EM survey over 21 contiguous claims in north cental Elliot Township (under an exploration agreement with Lenora Explorations Ltd.) 1984: Discovery Mines Ltd. and Lenora Explorations Ltd. diamond drilled 2 holes totalling 886 feet on what was described as the Colden Harker Explorations Ltd. option. 1986: Lenora Explorations completed a MAG survey and a geochemical (humus) survey.
Province: Superior
Subprovince: Abitibi
Terrane: Wawa-Abitibi
Belt: Abitibi
Geological Age: Archean
Metamorphism Type: Regional
Metamorphism Grade: Greenschist
Dec 07, 2005 (A Mitchell) - The bedrock in the area consists mainly of weakly metamorphosed (greenschist or lower metamorphic facies) tholeitic basalt and volumetrically minor intercalated rhyolitic flows of the (Archean) Kinojevis Group. Recent drilling in this area indicates that a significant thickness of variably carbonaceous interflow horizons of (metamorphosed) clastic sediments are also represented. Local bedrock stratigraphy strikes northeast, dips steply south, and faces south. The occurrence occupies part of the north limb of the east striking and east punging Blake River Synclinorium. Intrusive rocks include mafic, intermediate, felsic and syenitic bodies of unkown size and geoometry. Diabase dikes of the (Proterozoic) Matachewan swarm (Heaman 1989) occur in the area. Diamond drilling by Discover Mines yielded narrow (ranging frm 1 to 3 feet in length) core lengths of anomalously auriferous (ranging from 0.02 to 0.06 OPT Au) interflow sedimentary material which in the Deicovery Mines drill logs was described (assessment files) to be variably fractured and/or sheared, pyritic, and carbonatized.
