Exploration History

1919: Knight et al. (1919) reported that on a hill located about 660 feet south of the Mattawasaga River where it crosses the Harker/Holloway Twp. common boundary, bedrock is schistose, carbonate bearing, and anomalously auriferous. 1922: E.B. Archibald - claim staking, pitting, DD. 1937: Ben-Arch Mines Ltd.: acquired the 6 Archibald claims.1982-84: Camflo Mines Ltd.: optioned Worvest claims from Lenora Explorations Ltd.; geological mapping, geophysical surveys and DD-40. 1984-88: American Barrick Resources Corp: DD-32-10,731.3 m, airborne geophysics, ground geophysics, resource established, a drift on the 300 m level from the Holt- McDermott Mine shaft was driven to the Three Star and Worvest claims, American Barrick Resources Corp. - acquired the Greater Lenora Resources Corp. (formerly Lenora Explorations Ltd.) 35% interest in the Worvest claims and in additional claims in the area. Drifts on the 150 and 250 m levels from the Holt-McDermott Mine were driven to access ore on the Three Star and Worvest claim groups.

Geology Comments

Jun 26, 2015 (A Wilson) - The Worvest deposit auriferous zone is hosted by tholeiitic basalt and interflow sedimentary material, is contained within the McDermott Deformation Zone of Workman (1986), is spatially associated with the trace of the Consular-Ben- Arch- McDermott Fault of Satterly (1952), and constitutes ore within Worvest claim no. 11312 and within (contiguous to the east) Three Star claim no. 11009. Production on the Worvest/Three Star orebody began in late 1989. The auriferous zone on the Worvest claim is reported to strike 074 and to dip 65 degrees south, with anomalously auriferous shoots plunging to the southwest. It is noteworthy that anomalous gold tenors at the Worvest/Three Star deposit are relatively more distal to the axis of the Porcupine-Destor Fault Zone (PDFZ) than is auriferous material near the Holt-McDermott Mine shaft. It is likely that country rock hosting the Worvest/Three Star deposit belongs to the (Archean) Kinojevis Group rather than to the (Archean) Porcupine-Destor Complex of Jensen and Langford (1985). If this is so, it would appear that the McDermott Deformation Zone of Workman (1986) represents a splay or similar structure radiating obliquely away from the PDFZ. Principal mineralized zones that have been mined to date along the structure include the South, C-104, McDermott, Worvest/Three Star, Mattawasaga, and C-97 zones, which occur over a strike length of three kilometres and have been mined to depths of over one kilometre below surface.

Lithology Comments

Jun 26, 2015 (R Degagne) - Geological mapping indicates that bedrock in the area is largely glacial drift covered. Exposed bedrock consists mainly of weakly metamorphosed (greenschist or lower metamorphic facies), east northeast striking, steeply south dipping, and south facing subaqueously deposited tholeiitic basalt and interflow sedimentary rocks. Intrusive rocks known to occur in the area include felsic and lamprophyric dikes.

Mineralization Comments

Jun 26, 2015 (A Wilson) - C. Knight reported an assay of $0.80 Au (0.04 oz/t Au). Diamond drilling completed in the vicinity of claim 11344 returned assays ranging from0.4 to 0.6 oz/t Au at various depths. The gold values are generally associated with higher silicification and pyrite contents. The degree of alteration is often related to the brecciation. Mineralization is mostly found within the footwall of the McKenna Fault. The Worvest Zone has a westerly plunge.
