Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (C Salo) - Geological mapping (Satterly 1954; Jensen 1982; Jensen and Langford 1985; Jensen and Baker 1986; Johnstone and Steele 1989; Baker et al. 1982; Vagners and Courtney 1985; McClenaghan et al. 1988, 1987; Steele 1988) indicates that bedrock in the area consists mainly of sparsely exposed weakly metamorphosed (greenschist or lower metamorphic facies) tholeiitic basalt and minor intercalated rhyolitic and interflow sedimentary horizons of the (Archean) Kinojevis Group. Recent exploration work (assessment files, Resident Geologist's Office, Kirkland Lake) indicates that the interflow sedimentary horizons are volumetrically more important than indicated by Jensen (1982), Jensen and Langford (1985), and Satterly (1954). The Kinojevis Group stratigraphy strikes east northeast, dips steeply south, faces south, and occupies part of the north limb of the east striking and east plunging Blake River Synclinorium. Intrusive rocks include what have been described to be syenitic and lamprophyre dikes of unspecified size and orientation, albite syenite and pyroxenite intrusive bodies on the order of tens of metres in size (as exposed several hundred metres to the west on the patented Iris Gold Mines Ltd. claims in southeastern Harker Township) and narrow (tens of metres in width) north striking diabase dikes of the (Proterozoic) Matachewan swarm (Heaman 1989).

Mineralization Comments

Aug 02, 2016 (C Salo) - Anomalous (greater than 0.01 oz of Au/ton) Au tenors are known in 2 places on the Lenora Explorations/Canadian Nickel Co. claims: in sw Holloway Twp (at the site of the Coin Lake Gold Mines dia. dril'g) and in central Holloway Twp (at the site of the McIntyre-Porcupine Mines dia. dril'g).Coin Lake Gold Mines dia. dril'g intersected anomalously elevated Au tenors within mineralized (pyritic) rhyolite in assoc. with quartz veins and stringers. The best Au assays here are reported (assessment files) to be associated with the northern rhyolite contact, at the same stratigraphic location where an auriferous vein occurs at the Coin Lake Gold Mines shaft, a few 100m. to the west. Pyritic sections are reported (assessment files) to occur frequently within the 120' thick fractured rhyolitic horizon in the area, but they are described to be discontinuously developed. McIntyre-Porcupine Mines dia. dril'g is reported to have intersected quartz-carbonate veins and veinlets ranging from 0.5 inches to about 10' in width with which pyrite, chalcopyrite, arsenopyrite, and pyrrhotite are associated. Although no assay data accompanies the drill logs in the assessment files, resampling of this core by Lenora Explorations in '84 is reported (assessment files) to have returned 0.10oz of Au/ton from a 10' core length of pyritic vein material. The Coin Lake Gold Mines dril'g yielded significant core lengths of auriferous rhyolite, incl. 0.03oz of Au/ton across a core length of 15', 0.02oz of Au/ton across a core length of 21', 0.03oz of Au/ton across a core length of 13', 0.057oz of Au/ton across a core length of 16', and 0.02oz of Au/ton across a core length of 34'. A grab sample of rhyolite is also reported to have assayed 0.09oz of Au/ton.Assays from the Barrick Gold Corporation drilling returned best assays from 1.32 g/t to 4.8 g/t over 1 m. The highest assays were returned from the lower part of the drill holes.
