Exploration History

1935: The Consolidated Mining and Smelting Company of Canada Ltd. optioned 9 claims from a Mr. McKenzie, sank a 256' deep inclined shaft, 1,033' of lateral expl. work on the 120 and 240' levels, and hoisted about 7,612 tons of waste material. By year end, about 10,550' of ug and surface dia. drilling had been completed. 1936: Garrcon Mines was incorporated in May with Consolidated Mining and Smelting controlling the company and acting as operator on the Garrcon Mines property. 1,745' of lateral ug expl. work and add. ug dia. drilling were completed. 1937: 4' of shaft sinking, 1,542' of lateral ug expl. work, 21 surface holes totalling 5,070', and 33 ug holes totalling about 5,905' were dia. drilled. Before oper. were suspended at year end, aggregate lateral ug expl. work amounted to 636' on the 120' and 3,655' on the 240' levels, aggregate dia. drilling totalled 16,099' (of which 11,029' were drilled ug) and about 520' of trenching had been completed. 1941: Consolidated Mining and Smelting dia. drilled one 293' hole near the NE corner of claim 38950. 1946: Consolidated Mining and Smelting completed a MAG. 1949: Consolidated Mining and Smelting- trenching and 4 holes totalling 2,110' were dia. drilled. 1983: Kerr Addison Mines dia. drilled 10 holes. 1986: Dia. drilling by Cominco was financed by Jonpol. 1987: By mid year, drilling funded by Jonpol and supervised by Cominco had established reserves. 1988: Jonpol acquired a 100% interest in the property following Cominco's having dia. drilled 79 holes. ValGold completed 14 diamond drill holes totalling 5709 m between 2006 and 2007. Northern Gold Mining Inc. acquired the property in 2009. Between 2009 and 2012, the company completed geophysical surveys, surface stripping and sampling, petrographic, structural and environmental studies and 94 180 m of diamond drilling in 260 holes and 20 extensions. 2014-2015 Northern Gold extracted a bulk sample totaling 81,000 tons. 2016. Osisko Mining commenced a 20,000m drill program.

Geology Comments

Aug 24, 2016 (D Guidon) - The northern portion of property is underlain by mafic metavolcanic rocks of the Kidd–Munro assemblage, the southern portion is underlain by mafic metavolcanic rocks of the Lower Blake River assemblage. The central portion is underlain by clastic and chemical metasedimentary rocks and alkalic metavolcanic rocks of the Timiskaming assemblage (Satterly 1949; Berger 2002; McGarry et al. 2014). The Porcupine–Destor Deformation Zone (PDDZ) separates the Timiskaming and Blake River assemblages. The northern branch of the PDDZ separates the Timiskaming from the Kidd–Munro assemblages. Komatiitic rocks are hosted in the fault zones. The width of the Timiskaming is about 750 m. The prominent north-trending Garrison Creek Fault is about 450 m to the west of the shaft. (Satterly 1949; Berger 2002; Ayer, Berger and Trowell 1999). To the west of the shaft, mineralized rock (Shaft Zone) was exposed on surface. The rock is highly altered and cut by quartz veining. Originally assumed to be clastic metasedimentary rocks, Berger (2002) recognized them as felsic alkalic flows by chemical analysis and microscopy. Satterly (1949) noted a narrow zone of banded jasper-magnetite iron formation (Photo 1C) which is exposed in the pit to the northwest of the shaft. The underground plan (Satterly 1949) indicates that a large number of quartz stringers occupy north-trending tension cracks and to a lesser extent faults or shears trending at 070 degrees and dipping mainly about 45 degrees.

Dec 07, 2005 (C Salo) - The 12 claim Cominco/Garrcon property straddles the locally E-striking PDFZ in the general area where it joins the W to WNW-striking Munro/Pipestone Fault Zone. The PDFZ is complex, consisting of juxtaposed lith. and struct. distinct fault/shear bounded blocks up to several hundred metres in size which in aggregate comprise a zone which is locally as wide as several kilometres. The metamorphic grade in the area is greenschist or lower metamorphic facies except marginal to felsic intrusions, where amphibolite grade contact metamorphic aureoles may be developed. North of the PDFZ, basement rocks are moder. north dipping and north facing (weakly metamorphosed) volcanic, volcaniclastic, and sed. rocks of the calc alkalic (Archean) Hunter Mine Group and younger komatiitic, tholeiitic volcanic and intrusive rocks of the (Archean) Stoughton-Roquemaure Group. South of the PDFZ, NE-striking, steeply south dipping, south facing, weakly metamorphosed tholeiitic basalt of the (Archean) Kinojevis Group occupies the north limb of the east striking, east plunging Blake River Synclinorium. The PDFZ is poorly exposed and virtually all information concerning it comes from exploration diamond drilling. The PDFZ is a regionally nonhomogeneous assemblage of juxtaposed fault/shear bounded blocks, each of which may be distinct structurally and lithologically from surrounding blocks. Mafic to ultramafic domains believed to represent faulted blocks of Stoughton-Roquemaure Group rocks as well as clastic, tuffaceous and chemical sediments and interbedded alkalic (generally sodic series) volcanic rocks are also represented within the PDFZ. Intrusive (often sodic series) rocks including dikes of syenite, syenodiorite, granodiorite and monzonite occur within the PDFZ and often are enclosed within extensive alkali element, CO2, and H2O metasomatic aureoles. The Garrison Stock is a large (4 km wide) felsic monzonitic intrusion located immediately south of the PDFZ and the property.

Mineralization Comments

Aug 24, 2016 (D Guidon) - The deposit, as defined by drilling, is a broad zone of low grade gold mineralization and contains 5 higher grade zones: Shaft, South, North, Green and East zones. Gold occurs is a complex system of stockwork veins hosted in brecciated and silicified metasedimentary rocks of the Timiskaming assemblage. Veins are predominantly quart-carbonate and narrow. Gold occurs as native gold (Photo 1B). Metallic minerals include pyrite, magnetite, specularite, pyrrhotite, chalcopyrite, sphalerite and arsenopyrite.

Dec 07, 2005 (C Salo) - Au min. near the shaft is rpted to consist of narrow gen. n striking, steeply to moder. E dipping, and 070 striking white q vlets and discont. patches of white q which are hosted by var. brecciated wacke and volumetrically minor argill. interbeds. The qv are rpted to contain varying amts. of py and sporad. dist. native (visible) Au. Cominco Ltd. recently (circa '87) stripped outcrop located a few tens of mtrs NE of the shaft. Exposed here is lt weathering var. alt. mass. wacke which is shattered and now forms a monolithic tectonic or hydroth. crackle breccia. Narrow (mm scale) irreg. dist. and oriented grey q stringers and cm scale masses are hosted by this breccia. Loc., vis. Au occurs within hydroth. q mat. Sulfide minerals are absent from the stripped area. Surf. dia. dril'g by Cominco/Jonpol Expl. near the shaft during '86 is rpted to have inter. subst. widths of anom. Au min. within alt. sed. Tonnage est. for the shaft area (incl. South Zone min.?) of 102,800 tons of mat. aver. 0.18oz of Au/ton was released. N Zone Au min. is about 330 m n of the South Zone Dia. dril'g has est. the N Zone to be up to 10.7' wide, to extend along strike (az about 090) at lE 300', and to ext. at lE as far as the (vert.) 500' level. The Zone is rpted to be truncated to the west by a (n striking) cross fault. One 14.3' length of aurif. core from the zone is rpted to have aver. 0.355oz of Au/ton. The Zone is rpted to be near or within the shear devel. between a block of clastic sed. (to the south) and ultram. rock to the n. Amon. aurif. mat. comprising the Munro Zone, Amon. elev. Au tenors occur with py and/or asp in carbtized, chliized, and seritized komatiitic metavol. rocks within a cross faulted 100 to 1,000' wide shear. Except for the (integral?) pres. here of (native Au bearing?) q stringer sys., the Munro Zone is hosted by the same reg. scale shear. The zone is 250' long, aver. 10' in width, and that it appears to aver. between 0.09 and 0.25oz of Au/ton.
