Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (R Degagne) - Hopkins (1919, 1918) reported that on the south shore of Lake Abitibi between Ghost River and Lightning River, several occurrences of banded Algoma type (Shklanka 1968) iron formation occur. These occurrences are reported to vary stratigraphically from 2 to 150 feet in width, to consist of varying proportions of chert, magnetite, jasper and hematite, and to be associated with (interflow) clastic metasediments of the (Archean) Kinojevis Group (Jensen 1982, Jensen and Langford 1985).
