Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (M Barua) - The succession at CGC forms 4 separate cycles capped by gypsum. The thickness of the Main gypsum bed varies from 0.83 to 1.17m at a depth of 20-40m. Lithologically it consists of gysum rock(>85% gypsum) with minor dolomite as wisps and matrix to nodular and chicken wire mosaic textures. From regional correlation, the gypsum sequence mostly belong to the Salina E unit. Only a limited stratigraphic section is exposed in the CGC mine at Hagersville. The sequence dips gently SW and thought to be formed on a sabkha substrate.
