Access Description: Located 1 km NE of Rockwood on the west bank of the Eramosa River.



Exploration History

The quarry was opened in 1933 by the Rockwood Lime Company to provide feed for the adjoining lime kiln Both quiklime and hydrated lime were produced by the company.The lime plant ceased operating in 1973.

Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (M Barua) - The quarry exposes 12.1 m of dolostone of Middle Silurian Amabel Formation with some massive reef-like structures seen on the quarry face. Thin beds of dolostone separated by thin shale partings form the flaks beds of these structures. Calcite crystals are present in small vugs and as disseminated crystals; fossiliferrous with abundant crinoidal debris in lenses and rare brachiopods.
