Feb 24, 2017 (A Wilson) - Shells are common in the marl. Gastropods predominate, but pelecypods and Chara debris are also present. Fibrous organic matter is abundant in the upper few feet due to the prolific marsh that preceded the raising of the water level in 1960.

Feb 24, 2017 (A Wilson) - McNab Lake marl is of poor quality. A 10-ft section analysed 82.0% CaCO3, 2.7% MgCO3, 0.34% Fe2O3 and 2.96% insoluble. McNab Lake marl is of poor quality. A 10-foot section analysed 82.0% CaCO3, 2.7% MgCO3, 0.34% Fe2O3 and 2.96 insoluble. The Sun Portland Cement Company analysis in 1905 was 1.38% SiO2, 1.30% Fe2O3, 87.51% CaCO3, 2.97% MgCO3 and 1.06% SO2.
