Mar 01, 2011 (A Wilson) - The country rock is a medium grained hornblende or biotite-hornblende gneiss. The gnesisocity strikes N75°W and dips 70°SW. The gneiss is cut by narrow dikelets of granite pegmatite and aplite.

Mar 01, 2011 (A Wilson) - Grab samples collected by R. Keevil and A. Hogg returned Cu values ranging from 560 ppm Cu from gneiss and quartz to 20,000 ppm Cu from coarse grained gneiss. The best gold value returned 5370 ppb Au from banded gneiss. Copper occurs as disseminated chalcocite and bornite in quartz veins as well as disseminations, lenses or masses of chalcopyrite and bornite in altered hornblende. A grab sample collected by J. Satterly returned 0.09 oz/t gold from a group of narrow quartz veins. A grab sample taken by J. Satterly from the rock dump on the shore of McGown Lake returned 0.08 oz/t Au. The gold reportedly occurred as small nuggets and scales in quartz veins. An 1895 report of the Inspector of Mines reported that the vein material was about 5 feet in width and had been traced for 0.75 miles. An 1898 report indicated assays of: $3.68 Au, trace Ag and $36.85 Cu at 24 feet and $14.46 Au, $2.27 Ag and $79.64 Cu at 33 feet. The best assays from the 1955 Kalbrook drilling returned 2.48% Cu over 5 feet in a hole near the original discovery pit.
