Exploration History

1903-1907: Shakespeare Gold Mining Company Limited drove a tunnel into the northwest side of the ridge, a shaft was sunk. 1936: Ensign Gold Mines Limited dewatered mine workings, surveyed and sampled. 1942-1944: Webbwood Copper Mining Syndicate Limited dewatered the shaft and did some diamond drilling on the 60-foot level in a search for copper mineralization. A 30-foot adit was driven into the hillside 70 feet east of the shaft. 1944-1945: N. Oreck hand-cobbed 9 tonnes of high-grade ore. 1950: Greenray Mines Limited dewatered the shaft to the 128-foot level and advanced the 60-foot adit to connect with the shaft at that level. Bulk sampling and 8 diamond-drill holes totaling 1,956 feet.1956-1961: Vermont Mines Ltd. Magnetic survey and 9 diamond drill holes totaling 1,486 feet. Second and third mine levels geologically mapped. 1973: Rodney Gold Mines carried out geological mapping. 2012-2013: NY85 Capital Inc. carried out line-cutting, magnetometer survey, IP survey. 2014: Geonovus Minerals Corp. completed 3 diamond drill holes totaling 395m.

Lithology Comments

Feb 28, 2020 (Sheree Hinz) - Northeast-trending folded Huronian metasediments are intruded by dikes and sills of Nipissing Diabase and northwest-trending Keweenawan diabase dikes. In the mine area, schistose Matinenda Formation quartzites with streaks and bands of schistose greywacke contain stringers of dark quartz. These stringers parallel the strike of the quartzites which have been folded into a lens in the shaft area. Thus, the mineralized zone strikes northeast and dips steeply south.

Mineralization Comments

Feb 28, 2020 (Sheree Hinz) - Chalcopyrite, pyrrhotite and arsenopyrite occur in the quartz veining. Native gold has been reported. The western part of the mineralized zone has been traced for 15 feet and was found to contain 1.12 to 1.85 ounces of Au per ton over an average width of 3.5 feet. Gold distribution in the eastern zone is more erratic, with values ranging from 0.45 ounce of Au per ton over 0.9 feet to 1.43 ounces of Au per ton over 1.2 feet.
