Point Location Description: Mineral occurrence at surface symbol (Map, GDIF144)

Location Method: Conversion from MDI

Access Description: The Naughton Quarry is located approximately 20 km west of Sudbury, in the northeast area of Waters Township. The area is crosscut by two east to Greater City of Sudbury Area y, in the central area of Waters Township. The area is crosscut by two east to west trending main roads: the Trans-Canada Highway (Highway 17) and Highway 658. Exploration History

1907: The Canadian Copper Company operated a quartz mine at this location, 2.4 kilometres northeast of Naughton Station, to provide quartz for a flux in smelting, and to line the converters. About 152 tonnes of quartz per diem were produced in 1907. (GDIF144) The quartz mine opened up by the Company on lot 8 in the fourth concession of the township of Waters has been in operation continuously. The new rock house has been completed, and the ore is crushed and screened before shipment to Copper Cliff. A shaft has been sunk on the vein and a quantity of quartz blocked out. About 152 tonnes of quartz is shipped per day to the smelters at Copper Cliff, where it is used as flux and for lining the converters. (ARV16, 1907, p. 64)
