Lithology Comments

Mar 19, 2009 (D Scholtz) - Intrusive Contact: Mafic metavolcanics consisting of amphibolite, amphibolite gneiss and schist. (M2119) Elsie Mountain Formation; pillowed and massive basalt, mafic and intermediate pyroclastic rocks, minor wacke, intercalated wacke, siltstone, and arenite, commonly sulphidic, minor dacite and rhyolite. (OF4570, GSC) There are numerous sulphide occurrences along the nickel irruptive contact in lots 11 and 12, concession IV, Denison township. They are all similar, consisting of disseminated to massive pyrrhotite, chalcopyrite, and pyrrhotite in breccias along the nickel irruptive contact. The country rock is mainly brecciated amphibolitic metavolcanics, and the basal nickel irruptive rock is quartz diorite or quartz diorite breccia. The quartz diorite contains abundant disseminated sulphides. The nickel irruptive contact is faulted and dips steeply. The rocks of the irruptive are sheared and locally brecciated. (R060, p. 55)
