Access Description: Island 364 can be reached conveniently by boat or plane from the town of Timagami, located on No. 11 Highway and the Ontario Northland Railway, about 25 miles to the northeast.

Exploration History

1956-60: Aubay Uranium Mines – DD- 7 -1716 ft 1955-56: 7 diamond drill holes totalling 1716 feet were completed by Aubay Uranium, to the east of the island, adjacent to the Krefeld property. Gold to 0.4 ounce per ton and U3O8 to 0.052% were reported at the base of the Huronian. 1955: The occurrence was examined by the Resident Geologist. 1960: One diamond drill hole totalling 254 feet by Niemetz on the west side of the island from Huronian into the iron-formation. 1974: Report on the property and prospectus by Rand Reef Mines Limited. The interest in the property was on gold at the base of the Huronian.

Aug 27, 2012 (A Wilson) - A schisted complex of rusty sediments and volcanics was exposed at the south tip of Island 364 by the low water level in Lake Temagami, following an unusually dry summer. Fine stringers and blebs of pyrrhotite and pyrite, with rare specks of chalcopyrite wore observed in this formation. The schist, which dips 50° - 70° to the north and strikes N 70° W apparently underlies conformably a zone of typical black and white banded iron formation of which a 50 foot width can be seen on the southeast point of the island. Iron formation also was intersected in drill holes on the mainland to the east of Island 364. The hanging wall of the iron formation here is comprised of argillite and conglomerate of the Gowganda Fm.

Aug 27, 2012 (A Wilson) - A grab sample collected by W. S. Savage (1955) assayed 0.23% Cu, trace Ni, trace Au and nil Ag. W.S. Savage estimated that the core drilled to the east of Island 364 contained iron formation that graded 25-35% Fe.
