Lithology Comments

Jun 25, 2010 (A Wilson) - The No. 1 quartz vein has an average with of 5.5 feet and the No. 2 vein has an average width of 5 feet. These two veins are separated by diabase and both are intersected by three basic dikes 20-30 feet in width which dip at high angles. The workings at the Copper Bay location have a length of 1000 feet and three shafts were sunk, the deepest of which was 450 feet. The No. 1 quartz vein strikes N30°W and dips vertically. The No. 2 vein branches away from the No. 1 vein near the north end and parallels it to the south for about 1200 feet before merging with it again. Over most of this length, the two veins are separated by 100 ft of diabase.

Mineralization Comments

Jun 25, 2010 (A Pace) - The copper content of the No. 1 vein on the Wellington and Copper Bay sections are about 3.3% for an average width of 5.5 feet and for 1800 feet along the vein. In one or two cases small quantities of gold are present. The gold averages 0.3 dwt for the Wellington section of the No. 1 Vein. An unpublished report states that the average contents of the No. 1 Vein at the Copper Bay, Wellington and Taylor sections are 3.8% Cu for a width of 5.5 feet. The average contents of vein No. 2 were found to be 2.67% Cu for a width of 4.12 feet. The average silver contents of the ore were found to be 0.16 oz/t. (AR24) There are no accurate production values for any of the specific sections of the Bruce Mines. Total mine production from the Bruce Mines: 47,593 tons of concentrates having an average grade of 20% derived from an estimated 400,000 tons mined (300,000 tons milled with 60% recovery); yielding 9850 tons of copper. The copper content of the ore is estimated to have been 4.5% Cu. The majority of the production came from the Copper Bay and Wellington sections of the property. Total recorded shipments of siliceous ore shipped by Mond Nickel Company Limited was 161,683 tons (MRC 12, p. 53)
