Access Description: About 1.6 kilometres north of the town of Portlock.



Exploration History

1899-1901: J. Stobie and the Stobie Mining Co. sunk a vertical shaft 160 feet deep, with 280 feet of lateral work on the 100-foot level. Shipped about 9 tons of material. 1940: 1 diamond drill hole sunk. 1951: Chipman Lake Mines Ltd. completed four drill holes. 1965: I. Carter carried out a magnetometer survey 1966: W.L. Ennis carried out a ground geophysical survey.

Lithology Comments

Mar 24, 2020 (Sheree Hinz) - Fissure filling quartz carbonate sulphide vein cuts Lorrain quartzite. The vein strikes N80E and dips 90º. Vein exposed on surface for a length of 80 feet is up to 3 feet wide and contains quartzite inclusions. On the 100-foot level there are two veins: the south vein is about 1 foot thick, the north vein is 2 to 3 feet thick and they are separated by 4 feet of country rock.

Mar 24, 2020 (Sheree Hinz) - Several tons of rich chalcopyrite-chalcocite-bornite-quartz ore was reported on the mine dump in 1957.
