Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2012 (P Beach) - The ore bed consists of uraniferous quartz-pebble conglomerate. Two principle beds of conglomerate ore were found. The average thickness of the upper bed is 11 feet and the lower bed 12 feet. They are separated by a 14 foot bed of pebbly quartzite that is radioactive but not of ore grade. The strata strike about N70E and dips 18N. The east west ore width indicated by drilling is approx. 3300 feet. The conglomerate consists of quartz pebbles in a matrix of feldspathic quartzite well mineralized with pyrite (5 - 15 %) and frequently containing a little chalcopyrite.

Dec 07, 2012 (A Pace) - Production started in 1957, No. 1 (main) 4-compartment shaft to 3,663 feet, No. 2 (service) 4-compartment shaft to 3,380 feet with both shafts joined by haulageway at 2,550 feet horizon, Up to it’s 1960 closing the mine had been developed on 16 levels. During 1963 and 1964 mine waters from the abandeoned Lacnor workings were bled off through Milliken Mine and the dissolved uranium was extracted in the leaching circuit. In 1964 prior to closing the Milliken mine, a raise was driven into the Lacnor workings above the water level
