Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (G Bennett) - The southern part of the property is underlain by Upper Mississagi Formation consisting of grey feldspathic crossbedded quartzite. The central part is high ground developed over the Nordic diabase sill-like intrusion. In cuts on Hwy 108, diabase is seen to dip more steeply than the adjacent sediments that are altered; the Bruce Limestone is recrystallized with the development of skarn minerals such as idocrase, grossularite, diopside, and epidote. The Bruce Limestone and, where it is not cut out by the diabase, the Bruce Conglomerate can be seen near the southern contact of the diabase, and the gradational contact with the Bruce Limestone exposed just north of the diabase. The northwest-striking fault dies out near the Onatrio Hydro transmission line in the south-central part of the group.
