Location Method: Conversion from MDI

Access Description: 1.25 kilometres north of Highway 556, 1.9 kilometres east of the west boundary of Deroche Township. The Kirby Legge and Kerr Scott Prospects are 1/4 mile apart but are part of the former Algoma Galena property. The Kirby Legge is 1 3/4 miles north east of Bellevue while Kerr Scott is 2 miles north east of Bellevue.

Exploration History

Date unknown: Adit, minimum length 32 feet on Kerr-Scott Propect. 1928: 2978 feet of d.d. in 15 holes by Sudbury Crater Mining Co. Ltd. 1939: Geophysical survey and mining operations by Algoma Galena Co. Two small open pits, 15 feet wide and 50 feet long. Approximately 80 tons of high grade galena bearing material and 1750 tons of low-grade material were mined. About 62 tons of high grade material were shipped to a smelter at Trail, B.C. (ODM 1940). Another account of this operation (SSM-13) states that 21 tons of hand cobbed material, assaying 47.5% Pb, 7.5% Zn, 7.15 oz/ton Ag and 0.03 oz/ton Au were shipped to Trail, B.C. In addition, it is stated that approximately 8 tons of galena rich material were shipped to Northern Foundary, Sault Ste. Marie, from which about 5 tons of pig lead were obtained. 1951-52: 19485.9 feet of d.d. in 49 holes by Teck Exploration Co. Ltd.

Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (P Beach) - Shear zones in mafic rocks strike N, and dip 70E to vertical. The main zone has been traced over a length of 1500 feet. Widths vary from about 1 to 7 feet. Shear zones are mineralized with lenses and stringers of sulphides and sulphide bearing quartz carbonate veins. Assays of the three best samples from d.d. core were (File SSM -13): (1) 11.8% Pb, 9.3% Zn, 1.48 oz/ton Ag over 1.0 foot (2) 2.5% Pb, 9.0% Zn, 2.46 oz/ton Ag over 4.0 feet (3) 0.41% Pb, 12.7% Zn, 1.7 oz/ton Ag, 0.08% Cu over 3.0 feet Most of the d.d. samples assayed contained less than 1% combined Pb and Zn, with Ag values ranging from nil to a fraction of an oz/ton.
