Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (P Beach) - A stockwork of large quartz veins in granite. In general, the veins strike N75W and dip 90. The stockwork apparently ranges from 3 to 50 feet in width.

Mineralization Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (Q Unknown) - Copper mineralization is associated with a 70 degree to 80 degree trending, 45 degree to 50 degree north dipping qurtz vein system hosted within a 110 degree trending, vertically dipping, 5m shear within granitic rocks. The quartz veining and shearing is exposed over 80m of strike length. The Eastern end of this zone is exposed in a West trending open-cut; 10m long, 2 to 3 m wide and 6-7 m deep along the top of the cliff.

Mineral Record Details

Site Visit Information

Date: Jul 28, 1999

Geologist: Q Unknown

Notes: A vertical cross-section of the vein system is exposed in the most westerly face of the open-cut. Here the sinous, crack and seal nature of the veins can be seen. White quartz makes up 75% of the vein but localised patches of smokey-quartz material are also present. An audit driven North for 25m attempted to interesct the quartz veining but appears to have been terminated prior to intersecting the mineralized zone. An undefformed West trending gabbroic dyke cuts the archean granite 60m North of the open-cut. This dyke is thought to be Keweenawan aged genesis for the mineralization.

Date: Mar 04, 2000

Geologist: P Beach

Notes: The Begley Copper occurrence is located in the Tilley Twp, approx. 38 km N Sault Ste. Marie, on Hwy 17. Access to the property is by logging road, 1 km to the power line. A skidder trail leads 800 m to the base of the cliff on the N side of the trail. An open cut is located on the top of the cliff approximately 150 m N of the trail. This is privately held land, and the owner, Mr. L. Barnett should be contacted prior to any visit. Copper mineralization is associated with a 70 to 80 trending, 45 to 50 N dipping qtz vein system hosted within a 110 trending, vertically dipping, 5 m shear within archean granitic rocks. The qtz veining and shearing is exposed over 80 m of strike length. The E end of this zone is exposed in a W trending open-cut; 10 m long, 2 to 3 m wide and 6-7 m deep along the top of the cliff. GPS readings taken at the open-cut give the following UTM location: Zone 16 700837 E, 5198283 N. A vertical cross-section of the vein system is exposed in the most westerly face of the open-cut. Here the sinuous, crack and seal nature of the veins can be seen. White qtz makes up 75% of the vein but localised patches of smokey-qtz material are also present. An adit driven N for 25 m attempted to intersect the qtz veining but appears to have been terminated prior to intersecting the mineralized zone. An undeformed W trending gabbroic dyke cuts the archean granite 60 m N of the open cut. This dyke is thought to be Keweenawan in age. It has been suggested that the presence of Keweenawan aged rocks proximal to this showing has suggested a Keweenawan aged genesis for the mineralization. This is not the opinion of this writer who leans towards an archean age for this mineralization. Mapping by Kennco Expl (Can) Ltd in 1957 shows shearing and qtz vein zones discontinuously over a 180 m strike length. Kennco carried out an extensive sampling program on the property consisting of 71 chip and channel samples. (OGS 1999 OFR 5990) See Geochem for assays.
