Access Description: 25 metres west of Highway 17, 2.5 kilometres north of the south boundary of McDonnell Mining Location.



Exploration History

Pre-historic - Pits and trenches by aboriginal tribes for native copper. Circa 1600 - Prospecting and mining by Alexander Henry for the Northwest company. 1842-1848 - Mining locations surveyed for Montreal Mining Co. and Quebec and Lake Superior Mining Association. 1848-1852 - Prospecting, shaft sinking and some production of copper from the area. 1882-1884 - Mamainse Mine developed by the Lake Superior Native Copper Company. Three shafts sunk to depths of 60, 280, and 320 ft; 4 levels established; stamp mill, service facilities, and village constructed by Lake Superior Native Copper Company. No production was recorded. 1948-53 9 Drill holes were put down by Macassa Mines, Ltd and (or) by C.C. Huston and Associates.

Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (G Bennett) - A fissure filled carbonate vein, sparsely mineralized with native copper, cuts Middle Keweenawan basalt. The vein strikes N25W, and dips 50E. The vein has been traced for a length of 1500 ft, and the width ranges from 1.5 to 13 ft.
