Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - The Gamitagama greenstone belt is geographically separated from the Mishiwawa part of the Michipicoten greenstone belt. It can be subdivided into a sedimentary rock assemblaged and a volcanic rock dominated assemblage. The Gamitigama Lake complex is a calc-alkalic sock which ranges in composition from olivine gabbro to syenite, intrudes the eastern half of the Gamitagama assemblage.

Lithology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - The showing lies within a northeast-trending fault. Olivine gabbro, olivine norite, gabbro, norite and mafic metavolcanics and uralitized and locally serpentinized on either side of the fault. Quartz monzonite pods and dikes are intruded along the fault and in subsidiary fractures parallel to the fault. A quartz vein occurs 1.5-3 m southeast of the fault and is predominately within the monzonite, but partially extends into the gabbro.

Mineralization Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - The quartz vein is fractured parallel to the margins which locally contain visible gold. No sulphed mineralization has been observed at the site. Assays taken across the vein within the monzonite range from trace to more than 1.5 oz/t Au, but within the gabbro the gold values are commonly less than 0.05 oz/t Au (OGS 1961). A chip sample taken across 4.3 feet assayed $12.45 gold (1956). Within the vein there appears to be a 200-foot long by 30 foot wide ore shoot raking 45 degrees SW. In the shoot, the vein ranges in thickness from 0.5-7 feet and contains 0.5 to 1 oz/t Au, the shoot does not reach surface.
