Access Description: From Highway 17 take the Gamitagama Lake road to the canoe launch on the lake. Travel by canoe to the south bay of Gamitagama Lake. The north showing is located on the north side of a small lake approximately 100 m south of Gamitagama Lake.



Exploration History

1959: Coutu Gold Mines - 2 XRay drill holes. In 1956, exploration and prospecting in provincial parks was prohibited.

Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - The Gamitagama greenstone belt is geographically separated from the Mishiwawa part of theMichipicoten greenstone belt. It can be subdivided into a sedimentary rock assemblaged and a volcanic rock dominated assemblage. The Gamitigama Lake complex is a calc-alkalic sock which ranges in composition from olivine gabbro to syenite, intrudes the eastern half of the Gamitagama assemblage.
