Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - The Gamitagama greenstone belt is geographically separated from the Mishiwawa part of theMichipicoten greenstone belt. It can be subdivided into a sedimentary rock assemblaged and a volcanic rock dominated assemblage. The Gamitigama Lake complex is a calc-alkalic sock which ranges in composition from olivine gabbro to syenite, intrudes the eastern half of the Gamitagama assemblage.

Lithology

Lithology Data
Rock Type Rank Composition Texture Relationship
Vein 1 Quartz-Carbonate Vein Host
Quartz Monzonite 2 Near
Gabbro 3 Gabbro Near

Lithology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - The showing consists of a quartz-carbonate vein occuring allong the sheared contact between quartz monzonite and gabbro. At depth, the vein lies completely within the gabbro. The quartz monzonite is porphyriteic with corroded oligoclase phenocrysts and rare perthitic-microcline phenocrysts.

Mineralization Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - Locally, numerous narrow quartz veins occur in a zone up to 4.5 m wide. Assays are commonly less than 0.05 oz/t Au. The highest recorded assay was 0.25 oz/t Au over 0.5m. Higher assays were obtained when the vein was adjacent to quartz monzonite than when the vein was completely enclosed in gabbro.
