Point Location Description: Copper occurrences in a fault

Location Method: Data Compilation

Access Description: Drive west from highway 17 along the Gargantua Road for a distance of approximately 8 km. The occurrences are found within a fault on the edge of Buckshot Creek.



Exploration History

1961: sampling by the OGS. No exploration has been conducted on the occurrence.

Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - The rocks of the Southern Batholith outcrop throughout most of Alarie Township. The batholith has been divided into three formations which from oldest to youngest are: Gargantua Harbour porphyritc granodiorite, Ryan Migmative and grantic rocks.

Lithology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - Granitic rocks close to the Buckshot Creek Fault are locally intensely brecciated for as much as 20 feet on each side of the fault. The granodiorite fragments and unbrecciated wallrocks are highly hematized and breccia fragments are cemented by quartz and sulphide minerals.

Mineralization Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - Breccia fragments are cemented by quartz, hematite, and minor pyrite and chalcopyrite. Disseminated pyrite is also present in the granodiorite fragments. A grab sample collected by the OGS in 1961 retuned an assay of 2.02% Cu.
