Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - The main zone of the occurrence is about 9 m wide and extends from the shore of Lake Superior for about 400 m in a N34W direction. The zone is made up of a series of irregualr quartz veins up to 8 m wide. These scheelite bearing veins are separated by septa of schistose conglomerate. Interesting, but uneconomic grades of tungsten have been reported from this occurrence.

Lithology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - The series of scheelite-bearing quartz veins is enclosed in a schitose conglomerate. The conglomerate has been metamorphosed to dark-green to black quartz-biotite schist and quartz-hornblende schist containing subrounded boulders of trondhjemite and lenses of quartzose schist. The conglomerate is an enclave surrounded by the granitoid rocks of the Pukaskwa Batholith. The enclave is approximately 30-40 m wide at the shoreline and pinches out about 2 km north.

Mineralization Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - Scheelite occurs as grains, crystals, crystal clusters and veinlets of varying size. The scheelite is present mostly along schist septa in the quartz or at the margin of quartz veins. The distribution of scheelite is erratic. The scheelite is considered to be of high purity. Records estimate that the amount of scheelite present is 0.35% or 3.9 pounds of WO3 per ton. The tonnage is estimated at 790 tons per vertical foot. Grab samples yielded assays of 0.01 - 0.04 oz/t Au.
