Point Location Description: Shaft on east side of former Minto Lake (Citadel tailings pond), shaft on SSM 3132

Location Method: Field Visit with GPS

Access Description: Drive south along the Surluga Road for approximately 3 km to the west end of Minto Lake. At this point the road forks north and south. Drive north for appoximately 1 km to the fenced shaft and muck pile.



Exploration History

1897: discovery by S. Berailldt, sold to D. Tisdale, 1897-1901: Wawa Gold Mining Syndicate - trenching, pitting, No. 1 shaft sunk to 130 feet on SSM 3134. 1923: property restaked by Wawa Syndicate or Michael Syndicate. 1926-30: Cooper Gold Mines Ltd. - shaft dewatered, 1818 feet of drifting and cross cutting, diamond drilling, No. 2 shaft sunk to 340 feet (levels at 121, 221 and 321 feet). 1930: J. Knox - property acquired. 1931: transferred property to Minto Gold Mines Ltd. - 75 tpd cyanidation mill constructed and production continues until June 1934. 1934: Minto gold Mines Ltd. - property purchased, milling continued until 1939. 1960-1964: Lake Osu Mines Ltd. - geological mapping, EM survey, trenching, diamond drilling. 1962: property of Suluga Gold Mines. 1989: Citadel Gold Mines - stripping, sampling on area to the west of the Minto.

Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - The Jubilee Stock is a high level diorite to granodiorite intruding into the Jubilee tuffs in the north central part of the township. It hosts the Minto Mine which lies close to the NE trending Minto B fault. The Jubilee Shear Zone lies approximately 1 km to the west of the Mine.

Lithology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - The Minto vein is a quartz filled fissure in a granodioritic intrusion that hosts numerous inclusions and xenoliths of Jubilee tuff. The vein structure is composite with two distinct attitudes. The ore-bearing section is a quartz vein up to 10 feet wide. The footwall is unsheared and the hanging wall is sheared for at least 2 metres.

Mineralization Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - The gold content of the ore averaged 0.33 oz/t Au. The coarsely crystalline ankerite in the vein contains pyrite, chalcopyrite and pyrrhotite and reportedly gives fair gold assays.
