Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - The occurrence is hosted by the Jubilee tuffs which are a distinctive package of intermediate composition rocks lying between intermediate to mafic and intermediate to felsic metavolcanic rocks of the second volcanic cycle. These intermediate rocks are of local distribution and are largely absent elswhere in the greenstone belt. The veins occur adjacent to the Parkhill Fault and the Darwin/Jubilee Shear Zone and it is suggested that these veins may be related to the mineralization at the Parkhill Mine. The Smith or Van Sickle Vein has bee considered to be the same as the Parkhill Vein.

Lithology

Lithology Data
Rock Type Rank Composition Texture Relationship
Intermediate Tuff-Breccia 1 Andesite To Dacite Tuff, Breccia Host
Vein 2 Quartz-Carbonate Host
Quartz Porphyry 3 Quartz Adjacent

Lithology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - The showing/mine consists of at least 3 quartz-carbonate veins within a brecciated phase of the Jubilee tuffs. The shaft is collared in a more competent quartz-feldspar porphyry. The porphyry may be related to the intrusion of the Jubilee Lake Stock. At least two phases of lamprophyre dikes are apparent in the vicinity of the shaft. The older dikes trend 274/90 and the younger series trend 234/90. The breccia is composed of approximately 85% dacitic to andesitic fragments supported by a matrix of a similar composition. The breccia also hosts a small component <10% of coarse granodioritic fragments that may be related to the nearby Jubilee Stock.

Mineralization Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - No assays readily attributable to the Smith Vein have been published. Information from an assessment file dated 1937 indicates that there is about 5000 tons of tailings containing 0.086 oz/t Au present on the property.
