Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - The Citadel Mine is hosted within the diorite to granodiorite of the Jubilee Lake Stock and the tuffs and breccia of the Jubilee tuffs surrounding it. Gold is found in siliceous parts of fractures or shear zones in this sequence. The principal gold-bearing structure is the Jubilee Shear Zone which extends from Wawa Lake in the north to a point about 2 miles south of Minto Lake. A possible faulted extension extends south towards the Darwin Gold Mine. The Jubilee Shear Zone comprises several cataclastic units each up to 150 feet wide in a wider band. Ore zones within the Jubilee Shear are siliceous sericitic cataclastic foliated rocks with greater or lesser amounts of lensey quartz or quartz stringers and fine disseminated pyrite.

Lithology

Diorite 1 Diorite Brecciated Footwall
Schist-Unsubdivided 2 Chlorite-Sericite Host
Gabbro 3 Gabbro Adjacent
Lamprophyre-Unsubdivided 4 Adjacent

Lithology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - The productive part of the Jubilee shear is restricted to the part where the wall rocks are predominantly diorite or granodiorite. In the granodiorite, the shear consists of a carbonatized and locally slicified sericitic to chloritic schist zone. late gabbroic dikes have intruded along the shear zone. The gold-bearing portions of the shar are silicified and mineralized. The shcist pinch and swell along strike. In the vicinity of the min, large xenoliths of mafic metavolcanic rocks are present in the diorite. These random inclusions are of similar size as the ore shoots and their presence in and around the shear zone may be a controlling factor in localizing ore shoots.

Mineralization Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - Three types of mineral zones carry gold at the Surluga Mine. The upper gold-bearing zone is associated with quartz-tourmaline mineralization and averages 0.05-0.15 oz/t Au, this is followed by a deeper zone of quartz-pyrite mineralization with values ranging from 0.2 to 0.4 oz/t Au which in turn is follwed by a deeper quartz-arsenopyrite gold bearing zone that averages 0.2 oz/t to 0.5 oz/t Au. The galena and sphalerite mineralization below the bottom pinch of the ore shoots is restricted to narrow veins or veinlets of quartz and some carbonate.
