Lithology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - Two kimberlite dikes are exposed at surface in an old exploration trench just north of the caved stoped at the Grace Mine. The southernmost dike is 1 m wide and 20 ft in length. The northernmost dike is exposed for 35 ft and is 2 ft wide. Both dikes are rusty brown to black on the weathered surface and have a knobby surface texture. The fragment content in the dikes ranges from 10 - 25% with some fragments up to 4 cm in size. The southernmost dike hosts a central zone of rounded and streamlined inclusions. The southernmost dike is crosscut by numerous narrow quartz veinlets that extend outwards into host rock. Geochemical analysis of kimberlite dikes has suggested that they are type II kimberlites (orangeites).
