Point Location Description: Ridge of iron formation on north side of Mishewawa Lake

Location Method: Other Literature

Access Description: The site is accessible by driving east from Highway 17 along the Scott Falls access road. Cross the power dam and follow a sequence of disused bush roads south of the power line on the south side of the Michpicoten River. The occurrence is located on a northwest-trending ridge situated between Mishewawa Lake and Cabin Lake.



Exploration History

1906: discovery of iron formation. 1962: Algoma Central and Hudson Bay Railway - airborne geophysics. 1981-82: Algoma Steel Corporation - ground geophysics, prospecting. 1992: Reed Lake Explorations Ltd. - prospecting, mapping.

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - The iron formation is described as consisting of banded silica and magnetite. It is associated with schistose mafic metavolcanic rocks.
