Location Method: Based on Assessment

Access Description: The occurrence is accessible by driving south from highway 101 along the Great Lakes Power access road for a distance of approximately 13 km. The iron formation is exposed in a rail cut.



Exploration History

Circa 1900: discovery made along rail line. 1904: T. W. Trotter - mapping. 1908: Anjigami Iron Mining Company - mapping, stripping, trenching. 1944: Palmgren and Benson - restaking. 1954: Interprovincial Geophysics - ground geophysical survey. 1963: Algoma Central Railway - airborne geophysical survey, ground geophysical surveys.

Lithology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - Banded iron formation is interbedded with mafic to intermediate tuffs and chlorite schists. The layers of iron formation vary from granular silica to banded cherts to banded magnetite-chert. A pyrite-rich band has also been reported.
