Felsic lava flow-unsubdivided 2
Intermediate lava flow-unsubdivided 3

Lithology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (G Bennett) - The N termination of Goulais River (South) Iron Range represented by the NE and NW trending bands coalescing in the S and pinching out to the W. The iron formation consists of magnetite-quartz-amphibole with interlayered volcanics and sediments and intruded by felsic and mafic dikes. The rocks consist mainly of basic intrusives ranging from fine grained greenstones to diabases and gabbros.

Mineralization Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (P Beach) - Magnetite quartz iron formation in felsic / intermediate metavolcanics. An early estimate gives a possible tonnage of 0.5 million tons per 100 feet of depth averaging 31% Fe for the west limb and possibly 5 million gross tons to a depth 400 feet, averaging 32 % (ODM 1968 MRC 11 P 43).

Date: Aug 11, 1999

Geologist: G Bennett

Notes: The orebodies consist of narrow bands of iron formation in which the bands seem to be magnetite and silica. These bands strike north easterly and south westerly and are nearly vertical. An early estimate gives a possible tonnage of 0.5 million tons per 100 feet of depth averaging 31% Fe for the west limb and possbily 5 million gross tons to a depth of 400 feet, averaging 32 percent Fe for the remainder(Moore, 1925).
