Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (K Houle) - Shear zone is reported to be exposed over 140 feet (42.7 m) and a maximum width of about 10 feet (3.05 m) with a strike of N68W and vertical dip.

Lithology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (K Houle) - The principal host for the gold mineralization are sheared porphyry dikes. These dikes are exhibit various degrees of silicification, carbonatization, sericitization and pyrite alteration and contain, or are adjacent to, quartz-carbonate gold bearing veins. Tourmaline and chlorite are reported to occur on fracture surfaces within quartz-carbonate veins. The intensity of the shearing is reported to vary from highly sheared quartz sericite schist to a lesser sheared or well foliated quartz eye porphyry. Quartz phenocrysts in quartz eye porphyry are reported as being more abundant and larger in diameter, <1 cm., than in massive porphyry while feldspar phenocrysts are said to be non-existent. Quartz phenocrysts are presumed to be the result of hydrothermal alteration.

Mineralization Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (K Houle) - Gold mineralization is associated with quartz-carbonate veins lying within or adjacent to altered and sheared porphyry dikes. Small quantities of sulphides, pyrite and to a lesser extent chalcopyrite, have been reported at some locations.

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - An assay of 0.193 oz/t Au intersected at 362 feet in quartz-feldspar porphyry sills adjacent to sericitic and siliceous intemediate to felsic metavolcanic rocks. A 12 foot section grading 0.147 oz/t Au from 137 to 149 feet was intersected in a drill hole to the north of this hole. Rickaby (1935) reported an assay of 0.34 oz/t Au from a grab sample at this site. Grab samples collected by the OGs in 1994 returned values of 2.03 g/t Au and 0.3 g/t Au.

Sep 28, 2012 (P Bousquet) - Hole BE-85-4 intersected a sheared quartz porphyry caught in mafic volcanics. An intersected 20.5ft of mineralized rock (quartz porphyry and wall rock) returned a weighed grade of 0.054 oz/t gold. Hole BE-85-2 drilled 200ft in front intersected 3.4ft at a grade of 0.036 oz/t gold (T-2305 / 63.1588).

Site Visit Information

Date: Sep 13, 1985

Geologist: L Lutha

Notes: The writer visited Noranda Exploration's office at the Aunor Minesite in Timmins to examine core drilled by Noranda in Mallard Township. Hole 85-3, recently drilled was available for viewing along with 85-1. A brief drill log of 85-3 by the writer is as follows: 0 - 77 Overburden 77 - 357 Mafic lava, dark green grey chloritized, foliated at 80 to core, abundant carbonate stringers throughout, generally parallel to foliation. 100-121 shear zone containing bleached sericitic sections. Quartz-carbonate stringers throughout trace of pyrite. 357 - 363 Sericitic and siliceous section, light green grey. Few narrow quartz feldspar porphyritic sections between 359-362; 1-5% disseminated pyrite 0.193 oz. Au/ton. 363 - 366 Foliated light grey green sericitic with few narrow quartz carbonate stringers. 1-2% disseminated pyrite. 366 - 501 as from 77 - 357 with 495.5-496.5 quartz carbonate vein with minor tourmaline, 5% disseminated pyrite. Date: Jul 13, 1994

Geologist: K Houle

Notes: Massive mafic to intermediate volcanics in contact with sheared to well foliated volcanics, schist, and foliated quartz-feldspar porphyry. Strong foliation trends at 306 degrees and dips between 76-80 degrees to the northeast. Sheared or well foliated areas tend to be well carbonatized with abundant Fe oxides and rusty weathered surfaces. Quartz-feldspar porphyry appears light beige to brown with small sub-rounded < 2 mm quartz eyes. Sheared (or well foliated) rocks are generally hard and well silicified over various sections with spotty weak 10% HCl reaction. Chloritic alteration and traces of tourmaline have been noted along fractures and associated with small < 5 mm carbonate-quartz veinlets. Sheared (or well foliated) zones contain about 2-3% disseminated pyrite with up to 5-10% associated with the altered quartz-feldspar porphyry.
