Point Location Description: Drill hole collar of INCO hole #31914.
Location Method: Data Compilation
Access Description: Access into the area appears difficult and involves either flying in to one of the local lakes and traversing, or a series of canoe trips and portages followed by traversing.
1929: Early geology maps indicate that the iron formation around Yarwood Lake has been staked since prior to 1929, as a possible iron source. Although it has been reported that the iron formation has been observed to be pitted and trenched at several locations, no record of the actual work exists in the public domain. 1966: The Canadian Nickel Co. Ltd. (INCO) drill 2 holes into the extension of the iron formation to the southeast of the Cleland-Lundy patented claims in the northwest corner of Garnet Twp. 1985-86: Western Pacific Energy conducted magnetic, VLF, and self potential surveys over a gridded block of claims that straddled the Wakami River and extended from the east central and northwest corner of Garnet Township. The extent of the Western Pacific claims to the northwest ended at the boundary with the Cleland-Lundy patents and covered the INCO iron formation showing. The geophysics was followed by a 13 hole drill program; 7 holes on the west grid and 6 holes on the east grid. The western grid holes tested geophysical targets and intersected cherty, graphitic, and sulphide rich iron formation with intercalated metavolcanics and gabbroic intrusives. In the summer of 1986 the gridded portions of the property, as well as shorelines and roadsides, were geologically mapped and sampled.

Sep 25, 2012 (K Houle) - Inco's 1966 drill hole #31914 was reported to have intersected around 60 m of iron formation. This iron formation was variably described as containing chert, magnetite, hematite, goethite, specularite, and jasper. A 34 m unit of quartzite was found near the end of the hole and is described as being brecciated and recemented with oxides of iron.

Sep 25, 2012 (P Bousquet) - V.B. Meen stated in “Geology of Cunningham-Garnet area” that the iron formations proved too lean to provide ore.
