Point Location Description: Outcrop of iron formation on the north shore of the Wakami River in the northeast corner of tp.

Location Method: Field Visit with GPS

Access Description: Access is via a logging road between the town of Sultan and Highway 144. The Dore Road extends north into Garnet Twp. at a point about 30 km east from Sultan or 50 km west of Highway 144. Following this road for about 15 km you will reach a bridge that crosses the Wakami River. The occurrence can be reached by canoe from this point.

Exploration History

1966-67:The Canadian Nickel Co. Ltd. held a block of claims along a section of the Wakami River that included the showing. Three holes were drilled in the area around the Wakami River showing but on the south shore. All three holes intersected primarily massive to foliated greenstone with occasional sedimentary interbeds. 1984: A ground reconnaissance geological survey was conducted by Western Pacific Energy over a block of 133 claims in northeastern Garnet Township. Subsequently an airborne magnetic and VLF electromagnetic survey was also undertaken over the entire claim block. 1985-86: Western Pacific Energy conducted magnetic, VLF, and self potential surveys over a gridded block of claims that straddled the Wakami River in the northeast corner of Garnet Township. The geophysics was followed by a 13 hole drill program; 7 holes on the west grid and 6 holes on the east grid, south of the Wakami River. 2011: Cascadero Copper Corp. perfomed geological mapping over the area.

Lithology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (K Houle) - Small outcrop of ferruginous chert containing some magnetite and about 4% pyrite occurring as fine disseminates and thin massive stringers. The dimensions of the outcrop are given as 5.5 m by 0.9 m (Siragusa, 1987).

Mineralization Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (K Houle) - A sample mineralized with pyrite was sent to the Geoscience Laboratories, Ontario Geological Survey, Toronto, and analyzed 16.8 % iron, 0.16 % titanium oxide, and 432 ppm chromium (Siragusa, 1987).

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - A grab sample collected by the OGS in 1994 returned a value of 0.01 g/t Au, 0.2 g/t Ag, 0.0011% Cu, 0.0922% Pb, 0.0038% Zn.

Site Visit Information

Date: Jun 28, 1994

Geologist: K Houle

Notes: Initially written up as an iron formation occurrence on the north shore of the Wakami River west of the Dore Road. Only one small outcrop, about 1 m sq., was located at the edge of the water. This unit contained mostly magnetite with a small band of chert. No visible sulphides were observed and the unit was bound to the north by a massive mafic volcanic.
