Site Visit Information

Date: Aug 17, 2009

Geologist: B Atkinson

Notes: Property visit made during surveillance of the mineral occurrences in Cunningham Township. Outcrop located at UTM NAD 83, Zone 17 371902E, 5285459 consists of typical banded chert iron formation with alternating beds of magnetite and chert. Individual beds are on the scale of 4 mm to 4 cm thick. Occassional interbeds of strongly foliated chloritic mudstone occur within the chert beds, foliation is bedding-paralell in the mudstone. Flame structures and undulating contacts between the mudstone and chert indicate north-facing tops to the sedimentary sequence. Bedding trends 060/75S. Several chert beds exhibit a high degree of brecciation with clasts up to 2 cm in size, overlain by in-tact bedded chert. Interbedded with the chert are thin beds of felsic ash and garnetiferous mafic horizons. The chert iron formation bears remarkable similarity to that of the Bartlett dome in Bartlett Township south of Timmins. Small scale folding and faulting with minor bedding displacement affect the bedding and an oblique, wide spaced cleavage cross-cuts the bedding. A 2 m wide fine- to medium-grained quartz feldspar porphyry sill located at NAD 83, Zone 17, 371968E, 5285398N intrudes the chert iron formation. A conglomeratic unit consisting of clast supported chert pebbles in a rusty mafic matrix outcrops at NAD 83, Zone 17, 370781E, 5283817N. Bedding trends 055. To the south, outcrop consists of pillowed mafic flows with picture perfect pillows outcropping at NAD 83, Zone 17, 370561E, 5287059N.
