1929: During the course of mapping, Messrs Thomson and Emmons discovered marl in Betty Lake and two small lakes on the portage to the west in Tooms township, and in Surprise lake in Garnet township.

Sep 24, 2012 (P Bousquet) - According to Emmons and Thomson (1929), the marl is almost white and covers everything below the lake surface.
