Exploration History

1958: T. Clement conducted an airborne magnetic and electromagnetic survey over a small block of claims that straddled the Wakami River and included the iron formation showing along the west shore. 1959: The Anaconda Company (Canada) Ltd. conducted a ground electromagnetic and geological survey on a small block of claims to the immediate north of the iron formation outcropping on the lower Wakami River. 1972: Dome Exploration conducted a diamond drill program to the west of the Wakami River in southern Greenlaw Township. Two of the three holes intersected iron formation hosted within intermediate to felsic metavolcanics. 1990: M. Tremblay conducted a sampling program over a number of properties in the Greenlaw area. This program included several whole rock analysis in the area around South Greenlaw Iron to the west of the Wakami River. 2010: Sino Minerals Corp. – AEM, AMag.

Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (K Houle) - Band of iron formation is said to strike in a northwest direction and to dip vertically.

Lithology

Lithology Data
Rock Type Rank Composition Texture Relationship
Ironstone-unsubdivided 1 Banded Iron Formation Host
Intermediate lava flow-unsubdivided 2 Andesite Adjacent

Lithology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (K Houle) - Described as being composed of brecciated chert in a sheared and sericitized volcanic matrix with thin bands of limonite. Iron formation is highly sheared and brecciated and is cross-cut by numerous quartz and limonite stringers (Donovan, 1968).
