A logging road leads north then east into Greenlaw Twp. A small ATV trail at the end of this road will take you within a few hundred meters of the showing.

Exploration History

1980-81: Granges Exploration Ltd. drilled 7 holes in an area to the west of Ridout Lake for a total of 504 m. All but two of these holes intersected iron formation. Other rock types include intermediate to felsic volcanics. 1982: Mattagami Lake Exploration Ltd. conducted geological mapping, rock and soil geochemistry, radem, ground magnetometer, and gravity surveys over the former Granges property to the west of Ridout Lake. 1983: Noranda Exploration drilled two holes into iron formation to the west of Ridout Lake. The combined length of the drill holes was 469 m. Anomalous metal values as high as 0.019 oz./t Au and 1.16% Zn were reported in core assays. 1984: Noranda Exploration conducted a magnetic and electromagnetic survey over claims along the north shore extending to the west and the south shore of Ridout Lake. Noranda also conducted a geological mapping and geochemical humus survey over an area that include Ridout Lake and Little Ridout Lake to the east of the iron formation exposure. Humus sample were analyzed for Au but only discontinuous single anomalies were uncovered. Aerodat Limited flew a combined helicopter borne magnetic, electromagnetic and VLF survey for Kelly Kerr (John Larche Property) over the west end of Ridout Lake which included the showing. 1985: Granges Exploration Ltd. conducted a soil geochemical survey due west of Ridout Lake over a block of 11 claims. No interesting anomalies were discovered and further work was not recommended.

Lithology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (K Houle) - Granges Exploration AB intersected (hole SW 95) what was described as a 'calcite breccia' at a drill depth of 170.9' (52.1 m). A 3.5' (1.07 m) section of this unit assayed 11.0% Zn. This unit is bounded on both sides by rhyolite to rhyodacite tuff with 'smokey (blue) quartz'. Another hole (SW 83) about 300m to the southeast intersected a section of banded iron formation that assayed 1.05 g/t gold. This hole was bound on both sides by andesite tuff.

Mineralization Comments

Aug 12, 2013 (K Houle) - Drilling to the west of Ridout Lake indicates that the sulphide minerals pyrite, pyrrhotite, sphalerite and less commonly chalcopyrite are found in varying amounts associated with the iron formation and adjacent units. Granges reported gold values as high as 1.05 g/t over 3.2ft in hole SW 83 occurring in a banded iron formation with 30% magnetite and minor pyrrhotite.
