Exploration History

1945: D. McKechnie carried out prospecting (T-2192). 1961-62: Flint Rock Mines completed prospecting, sampling, and 10 diamond drill holes totaling 1243 ft (T-2192). 1976: Union Miniere Explns and Mining Corp. Ltd. completed an airborne geophysical survey (T-1732). 1982: Canadian Nickel Company completed an airborne geophysical survey (T-2446). 1982-1984: Troudor Resources carried out ground geophysics, geological mapping, and sampling (T-2545, T-5679). 1985: The Canadian Nickel Company completed 2 diamond drill holes near the west shore of island. 1988: Charet Syndicate completed an airborne geophysical survey (T-3199). 2016-2017: Blackrock Exploration Inc. completed an airborne geophysical survey (electromagnetic, magnetometer, gradiometer). 2019: John Leliever completed an airborne magnetometer survey (magnetometer, VLFEM, radiometric).

Lithology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (S Fumerton) - The host rocks in the area are agglomeratic, coarse grained mafic volcanics and lapilli tuffs which are locally sheared. The agglomerate is poorly sorted and fragments are up to 10cm in size. There are a number of thin interflow sediments within the volcanic pile.

Mineralization Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (S Fumerton) - There are a number of small quartz - calcite - epidote veins which locally contain pyrite, pyrrhotite and minor chalcopyrite. These veins are locally associated with the interflow sediments and typically carry anomalous gold values but sub ore grade values. In addition to the small veins similar gold values have also been returned from finely laminated siliceous interflow sediments.

Mar 30, 2011 (D Draper) - In 1945, Mr. D. McKechnie noted a vein in a shallow open pit at the water's edge, on the north side of the eastern peninsula of the island. Returning in 1961, the pit was found to be submerged. A sample of quartz vein with chalcopyrite and pyrite was taken from a nearby dump site and it returned an assay of 164 g/t Au (4.81 opt). In 1962, Flint Rock drilled 6 holes in the vicinity of this sample location, with Hole 2 returning 0.5 oz/ton over 1.5 ft. Flint Rock subsequently drilled 4 holes on the west side of the island, approximately 350m west of Hole 2. Of these, 3 returned values as follows: Hole 7 - 0.16 opt over 2.5 ft; Hole 8 - 0.44 opt over 5 ft; Hole 9 - 0.32 opt over 2 ft. The best results from Canadian Nickel's drilling on the west side of island were obtained from narrow interflow cherts (1.38g/t Au) and scattered quartz carbonate veins (0.75 g/t) in hole 72529. A sample of quartz-carbonate veining taken by Troudor in 1984 at the eastern tip of the peninsula assayed 1180ppm Au. (T-2192, T-2446, T-2545, T-5679)
