Exploration History

1932 Messrs McNeely and McCullough staked ground adjacent to the Kenty discovery and carried out a trenching and stripping program in the search for extensions to the Kenty gold mineralization. A number of narrow low grade showings were reported. 1976 Umex flew a regional magnetic survey and based on this work staked some claims which covered the prospect. No follow-up ground work is on file. 1982 The Canadian Nickel Company flew a regional electromagnetic, magnetic and radiometric survey which covered the prospect. As Caninco did not hold the ground, ground follow-up was directed else where. 1983 Swayze Resources carried out a geological mapping program which located many of the old trenches. In the following year a number of areas were stripped and some old trenches were resampled. It was during this work that the present mineralization was found and trenched. Assays results varied from 0.5 g/t to 8.9 g/t Au (0.26 opt). In 1985 the newly discovered vein system was systematically mapped and sampled over an 80m strike length. The weighted average of channel samples across the vein system is 1.8 g/t gold across 0.53m. 1993 Messrs Mortimer, Schell and Lovold carried out a trenching and prospecting program in the area. No technical details of this work are on file.

Lithology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (S Fumerton) - A narrow zone of carbonate alteration is associated with the fault cutting pillowed mafic volcanics. A narrow set of quartz veins and quartz stockwork occurs in the alteration zone.

Date: Jul 09, 1985

Geologist: J Ireland

Notes: The trench was mapped and sampled.

Date: Aug 05, 1994

Geologist: S Fumerton

Notes: Together with Bill Yee several hours were spent trying to locate the 100m trench excavated in 1985. The only location to this trench was inferred from a grid map made prior to the trenching and transferred onto a 1:50,000 topographic map which gave a general area of search. This area was accessed using a trail pushed in with a skidder or backhoe from the trail leading to the old Swayze Town site from the Kenty Road. Many old debris filled trenches were observed together with a number of new overburden trenches. However, no new trench with the expected orientation or geology was found. Approximately 50m from the best estimate for the position of the trench exposing the Hopkins #1 vein, an overburden trench bearing northeast was found. All backhoe trails in the area were investigated.
